INTRODUCTION

KishkintaKandam is the fourth chapter of Valmiki Ramayana, and it describes the meeting between Lord Rama with the Vanaras. The ancient Kishkinta is believed to have been situated in the present place of Hampi in Karnataka. Ancient Kishkinta kingdom contains full of natural beauty, surrounded with holy trees, and various kinds animals were also lived there.

Ramayana incidents were happened during the Treta Yuga, and lot of evidences are there about the characters present in the Ramayana. We cannot consider Ramayana as a story, but it was a real incident occurred in the life of Lord Rama and others.

Lord Rama while he was searching for Ma Sita, who was abducted by Ravana, visited Kishkinta, a place for the Vanaras, and it was ruled by the great Vanara King Vali. Due to the enmity between Vali and Sugriva, Vali’s brother Sugriva was hiding in the Rishyamuka Parvati along with Jambavan and Hanuman. The mighty Hanuman had enquired about the details of Rama and Lakshmana and took them to Sugriva. Sugriva had heard about the sorrowful incidents happened in the life of Rama, and he had promised him to bring back his wife Sita, after knowing about her whereabouts.

As per the wish of Sugriva, Rama shot on arrow on Vali by hiding in a distant place, and killed him. He also crowned Sugriva as the king of Kishkinta. After some time, as per his promise, Sugriva send his troops in search of Mata Sita. Rama had given his ring to Hanuman, and asked him to show it to Sita. Among the various Vanara soldiers, Angada, Hanuman and Jambavan, a mighty bear king, were the brave soldiers, who have got high capability to cross even the big seas. During their search, they met Sambati, the eagle king, who was the brother of Jatayu, and he asked them to travel to Lanka, in order to rescue Ma Sita from Ravana. Then Jambavan had narrated the significance of Lord Hanuman among all other Vanaras, and as per the request of Jambavan, Hanuman climbed up in the Mahendra Mountain, and he has started his journey to Lanka, in search of Mata Sita.
