INTRODUCTION

Kalighat Kali Temple is a Hindu temple located in KalighatKolkataWest Bengal, and in this Temple, Mata Kali is worshipped as the main deity and it is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas. It is the popular temple next to Dakshineshwar Kali Temple, Kolkata. The surroundings of the temple contain a rich scenery and greenery, and lot of transport, boarding and lodging facilities are also available nearby the temple. The temple is situated on the banks of Adi Ganga. At the present place of the temple, the toes of the right foot of Mata Sati Devi had fallen.

The Kalighat temple was built by a Kali Devotee in the year 1809. The idol of Kali Mata looks very beautiful and by watching her idol gives pleasantness for our eyes.The demon ‘Shumbha’was killed by Mata Kali, and she holds his head in one of her hands.Similar to killing of the demon, Shumbha, she would kill our Ego also. The Temple at Kalighat is considered as very holy. Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Mata Sarada Devi and Vivekananda had visited this temple and offered their respects to the great Kali Mata.While entering the temple premises itself, we would get happiness in our mind, and we would forget our worries and tensions at this holy place. Fridays and Tuesdays are considered as special days of Kali Mata, and devotees would perform puja and prepare a type of Bengali sweets from their homes, in order to offer it to the divine mother. Nearby the temple of Kali Mata, Lord Bhairava temple is located and it is an ancient temple. The Bhairava in this temple is known as Nakuleshwar Bhairava.

Visiting and worshipping Lord Kalabhairava and Mata Kali Devi would bring prosperity to us and we would get enlightenment.
