
INTRODUCTION
Santhalinga Swamigal (17th century) also known as Santhalingam was a shaivite saint and poet who lived in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. Santhalinga swamigal was born to a pious orthodox family in Perur village, Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu.
LIFE
Santhalingar lived in Perur and from his childhood he cultivated deep love on Lord Siva and used to apply Vibuthi in his body and wear the holy Rudraksha. His friends were also ardent devotees of Lord Shiva, and he used to discuss about the greatness of Shiva along with them. He traveled to the holy temples of Lord Siva and worshiped him with great devotion.
During his spiritual tour, he met the great shaivite saint Sri Sivaprakasa Swamigal, at Thiruvannamalai. And for some time he stayed with him. After some time, Sri Santhalinga swamigal married Gnanambikai, the sister of Siva prakasa Swamigal. His wife was a holy lady, who took care of her husband in a proper manner, and rendered selfless service to him. Many people were eager to listen to his teachings. Once to the eyes of his disciples, he and his wife appeared as Shiva and Parvati. After some time, he left his family, and lived his life by taking alms, and went to Perur, and started his spiritual journey in that place. Due to his powers, he got lot of followers and disciples. He spent his time in doing Shiva puja and meditation. Once he got the divine darshan of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati, and immediately he wrote a nice poem in praise of Shiva, and sung in front of him.
Among his disciples, Kumara Deva was a favourite disciple and he has written many spiritual works in Tamil.
At the age of Ninety nine,Sri Santhalinga Swamigal had breathed his last, and his body was kept in a Samadhi in perur, and still now lot of devotees are visiting and worshipping the holy Samadhi and getting the blessings of Sri Swamigal.
